DOLE-OSHC, Bocaue LGU and OSHMS 360 hold free BOSH training for firecracker retailers

Bocaue Bulacan – More than a hundred owners, managers and sales personnel of 98 firecracker retail companies benefitted from the free Basci Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Training held on October 25-28, 2016. The training was conducted jointly by the DOLE Regional Office III, Occupational Safety and Health Center(OSHC), Bocaue LGU and the OSHMS 360 Corporation - a DOLE-accredited safety training organization.

“The pyrotechnic industry has indeed very hazardous processes and they are in dire need of knowledge to properly respond to the hazards in their workplace. We are very grateful to our partners in this endeavor who have hugely contributed to raising the OSH awareness of the workers in this industry,” said OSHC Executive Director Ma. Teresita S. Cucueco. “This is very important especially now that this industry is increasing its production in time for the holidays,” she added.

The BOSH Training is one of the 40-hour mandatory trainings for safety officers. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Standards, a sufficient number of safety officers, who have finished the BOSH Training, must be employed by all establishments. The number of safety officers depends on the number of workers for every shift.

The BOSH Training for the fireworks retailers also featured a lecture on Explosives Safety and the Licensing Permit System of the Philippine National Police.

In 2014, the DOLE issued Department order NO. 134: Guidelines on OSH in the Pyrotechnic Industry which explicitly states provisions on the establishment of an OSH policy, program, and committee as well as safety personnel for all establishments in this industry.
