DOLE-OSHC trains 726 new safety officers on mandatory OSH trainings

A total of 726 new safety officers from 389 companies attended nine batches of the Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Training and five batches of Construction Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) Training held by the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC), in cooperation with the Occupational Safety and Health Networks (OSHNets) in May.

“We have a steady stream of participants wanting to take mandatory OSH trainings and we are grateful to of our very reliable partners – the OSHNets, who help us respond to the needs of workers in terms of trainings,” said OSHC Executive Director Ma. Teresita S. Cucueco, MD, CESO III.

The BOSH and COSH Trainings are the 40-hour mandatory trainings for safety officers. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Standards, a sufficient number of safety officers, who have finished the BOSH or COSH Training, must be employed by all establishments. The number of safety officers depends on the number of workers for every shift. The e-BOSH on the other hand, may be taken by workers who are too busy to take five days off from work at their own pace for a maximum period of three months.
