More than 100,000 workers benefit from OSHC services in 2016

A total of 106,655 workers benefitted from OSHC services this year. This includes those who benefitted from the OSHC technical services as well as the 36,527 participants in the mandatory and specialized OSH trainings conducted jointly with the Occupational Safety and Health Networks nad DOLE-accredited Safety Training Organizations throughout the country.

Some 69,203 workers from 193 companies benefitted from the Work Environment Measurement (WEM). The WEM is conducted to determine the concentration of various workplace hazards such as chemicals, dust, inadequate illumination, extreme temperature, and noise and identify appropriate solutions to ensure worker safety and health. Occupational health services such as blood testing for heavy metals, biologic monitoring and medical examinations benefitted 827 workers from 15 companies while 40 consultants and 23 safety training organizations were accredited.

The OSHC also conducted 2,509 tests on 1,660 specimens of personal protective equipment and assessed 58 applicants for the scaffold erection competency. Researches were being conducted on the national OSH profile of the Philippines, compensable diseases in the Philippines, OSH for young workers in the construction industry, OSH conditions of self-employed workers in Metro Manila, working conditions in the movie and TV industry, and work-related injuries and diseases among Filipino seafarers.
