DOLE-OSHC trains 88 new safety officers from Bicol LGUS on construction safety

Some 88 new safety officers from 33 local government units and other government agencies in Bicol attended the Construction Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) Training held by the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC), in cooperation with the DOLE Regional Office and the Bicol Occupational Safety and Health Network. The training was held on May 16-20 at the Kanzo Hall and Restaurant in Legazpi City.

“We are happy to note that more and more government offices are taking interest in occupational safety and health. Among the top of our priorities this year is the conduct of OSH trainings for LGUs and so far we have already finished three batches of COSH. In the pipeline are more batches of COSH and the Basic Occupational Safety and Health Training (BOSH),” said OSHC Executive Director Ma. Teresita S. Cucueco, MD, CESO III.

The BOSH and COSH Trainings are the 40-hour mandatory trainings for safety officers. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Standards, a sufficient number of safety officers, who have finished the BOSH or COSH Training, must be employed by all establishments. The number of safety officers depends on the number of workers for every shift. The e-BOSH on the other hand, may be taken by workers who are too busy to take five days off from work at their own pace for a maximum period of three months.
