DOLE-OSHC REU IX orients Zamboanga LGU workers on safety and health


Grand Astoria Hotel, Zamboanga City – Today, some 70 garbage collectors working for the Zamboanga LGU are learning about safety and health for the first time in the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Orientation being conducted by Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) Regional Extension Unit (REU) focal person Ma. Joy Reneeli Espinosa.


The said OSH Orientation is the second of a series of lectures on worker safety and health for Zamboanga LGU workers. Last September 226 to 27, 100 staff from the LGU’s General Services Department which includes traffic aides electricians, administrative aides and public market officers


The OSH orientation features lectures and discussions on the basics of safety and health, the common hazards present in small-scale and backyard enterprises such as materials handling and storage, poor housekeeping, use of sharps and other equipment, exposure to dust and other contaminants, inadequate ventilation and illumination, heat stress, and musculoskeletal disorders. Participants to this training are also given information on reproductive health, diseases such as HIV and AIDS, tuberculosis and Hepatitis B.
