DOLE-OSHC and Canadian Emergency and Risk Management train LLCOs on HazMat

Some 70 Labor Laws compliance officers and staff of the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) participated in the Hazardous Materials Training conducted by the Canadian Emergency and Risk management (CERM) today, September 2, 2016 at the OSHC main office in Quezon City.

“We are grateful to CERM for sharing with us valuable knowledge in understanding the risks and the proper responses to emergencies caused by hazardous materials. These information will enable us to train safety officers better and help our LLCOs spot the risks more efficiently when they do safety audits,” said OSHC Executive Director Ma. Teresita S. Cucueco, MD, CESO III.

Hazardous materials, also known as dangerous goods such as flammable and radioactive materials, compressed gases and biohazardous materials should be handled properly by trained personnel. These should be stored in proper containers with accurate labels.

The said training featured discussions on the standards used in identification, labeling, storing and transporting hazardous materials as well as the international and Philippine regulations for handling dangerous goods. CERM also gave lectures on appropriate response strategies should chemical emergencies happen.
