DOLE-OSHC trains DPWH engineers on construction safety in Western Visayas


A total of 50 engineers of the Department of Public Works and Highways benefitted in the Construction Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) Training conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) on November 14-18, 2016 at the HRT Service Center, ISAT U, La Paz Iloilo City.


The COSH is the 40-hour mandatory training for safety officers in the construction industry. It is designed to promote positive worker practices by explaining the basics in accident causes and prevention, construction site safety, occupational health and environmental safety. The hierarchy of controls was also discussed to advocate the procedures to protect workers such as eliminate the hazard; substitute less hazardous materials, processes, operations or equipment; implement engineering controls; introduce administrative controls such as safe work procedures, education and training, job rotation, and supply personal protective equipment.


The five-day training also included lectures on the General Labor Standards and the labor Laws Compliance System of the Department of Labor and Employment.
