DOLE-OSHC trains 111 workers on construction safety for free

A total of 111 workers from 26 small-scale construction companies benefitted from the free one-day Construction Safety Orientation conducted by the OSHC yesterday, January 21, 2015.

“We are continuously holding free trainings to equip construction workers with the basic knowledge on safety, especially for those coming from small-scale construction companies who cannot afford to pay for the training. With the rising number of accidents in this very hazardous industry, we are tripling our efforts to prevent more workers from getting injured and falling ill due to the risks involved in their jobs,” said Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) Executive Director Ma. Teresita S. Cucueco, MD, CESO III.

Aside from the mandatory, 40-hour Construction Safety Training required for all safety officers, all construction workers are required to undergo the one-day Construction Safety Orientation under the DOLE Department Order 13: Guidelines Governing Occupational Safety and Health in the Construction Industry. It was also reiterated in the MOA-JAO signed by the Departments of Labor, Public Works and Highways, and Interior and Local Government, including the Philippine Regulation Commission in 2011. Under the MOA-JAO, all Authorized Managing Officers (AMOs) are also required to undergo the said orientation before being issued a license by the Philippine Contractors’ Accreditation Board.

The said Orientation is being conducted by experts from OSHC and DOLE or DOLE-accredited safety practitioners.
