DOLE-OSHC and OSHNets trains 424 new safety officers on mandatory OSH trainings

A total of 386 workers from 108 companies benefitted from the mandatory occupational safety and health trainings conducted by the OSHC, in cooperation with the Occupational Safety and Health Networks in January 2015. This includes 270 participants of the Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) trainings conducted in Dumaguete, Cebu, Zamboanga, Davao and Lucena, 18 graduates of the on-line BOSH, and the 186 participants of the Construction Safety Training batches held at the OSHC main office in Quezon City, Tuguegarao, Cebu and General Santos City.

“This early, we are already shoring up our efforts to reach to train an even bigger number of safety officers. We are very much grateful to our partners – the Occupational Safety and Health Networks (OSHNets) – who hgelp us facilitate the delivery of the mandatory trainings in the regions. There is so much clamor from workers in all sectors for the mandatory trainings and we need to be able to serve everyone”, said OSHC Executive Director Ms. Teresita S. Cucueco, MD, CESO III.

The Basic Occupational Safety and Health training features lectures, workshops and site visits to give participants sufficient knowledge on the many aspects of safety and health in the workplace. Over the years, customized BOSH training courses have been developed for specific industries such as construction (now known as Construction Safety Training), IT-BPO, maritime, mining and bus transport industries.

This is mandatory for all safety officers, a sufficient number of which is required for all establishments depending on the number of their workers.

“It is very challenging to accommodate the huge number of workers who need training but it is also very encouraging for us who are pushing for the OSH advocacy because it means that more and more companies are becoming concerned about the safety and health of their workers and are initiating efforts to voluntarily comply with the OSH Standards,” added Cucueco.
