DOLE-OSHC celebrates World Day for Safety and Health in Davao

Close to 300 participants from various industries joined the Department of Labor and Employment and Occupational Safety and Health Center – Davao Office in celebrating the World Day for Safety and Health held today at the Abreeza Mall Activity Center, Bajada Davao City.
With the theme “Join in building a culture of prevention on OSH”, partners from various sectors shared and discussed best OSH practices to promote the culture of safety and health and encourage more advocates to join the activities and programs on OSH. Ms Sonia Delfen of DOLE and Mr. Alexander Villalon, an Emergency Management specialist, discussed the Labor Law Compliance System and Disaster Management in the Workplace respectively.

DOLE also awarded companies with good safety and health practices and who had zero accidents with the One Million Safe Man Hours and the Two Million Safe Man Hours (No Lost Time Accident) to recognize their efforts of maintaining a safe and healthy working environment. The Safety How Website – a website that features practical information on protecting workers was also launched during the event.
The World Day for Safety and Heallth is an initiative of the International labor Organization to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally. It is an awareness-raising campaign intended to focus international attention on emerging trends in the field of occupational safety and health and on the magnitude of work-related injuries, diseases and fatalities worldwide. In many parts of the worlds, national authorities, trade unions, employer’s organizations and safety and health practitioners organize to celebrate this date.
