DOLE and Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety partner to enhance OSH program and polic

“We stand to gain so much from this partnership in that we will be learning and at the same time sharing our experiences and best practices with our counterparts from Canada. I am excited to the developments this will bring to both countries,” said Labor Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz. after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Occupational Safety and Health between the DOLE and the Canadian Center for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS).


In the MOU inked by Secretary Baldoz and Minister Shirley Bond of the British Columbia Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour, Both the Philippines and Canada have agreed to develop and implement bilateral cooperative programs and activities that will develop, improve and sustain the occupational safety and health (OSH) culture and the delivery of OSH information and services in the two countries.


Among the areas for cooperation are awareness raising on OSH particularly on the industrial hygiene programs of both countries, updating of the Philippine OSH Standards and improvement of OSH policies, enhancement of expertise on testing of personal protective equipment (PPE) and medical health surveillance. The two countries will also work improving workplace emergency response programs.


“We at the Occupational Safety and Health Center are looking forward to this collaboration with the CCOHS as this will enhance our e-OSH courses and information dissemination activities,” said Occupational Safety and Health Executive Director Ma. Teresita S. Cucueco, MD, CESO III.


Officials from both countries will draw up the specific activities and programs to be undertaken as well as the details for each country’s commitments. The MOU will be in effect for five years.


The MOU on OSH was signed along with the MOU on the Cooperation in Human Resource Deployment and Development on May 9, 2015 in Canada.
