DOLE-OSHC conducts free OSH orientation for informal sector workers in Isabela
A total of 79 informal sector workers from Reyna Mercedes, Isabela benefitted from the free Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Orientation conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Center last June 17, 2015.
“OSH is for all workers whether they are working in big factories and high-rise offices or within their own backyards. Together with our partners, we strive to reach all workers and train them to practice safe work procedures. We want them to understand how their safety and health can hugely contribute to the productivity and sustainability of their enterprise. Proof of these are the success stories from some of our beneficiaries in the informal sector,” said OSHC Executive Director Ma. Teresita S. Cucueco, MD, CESO III.
The one-day OSH orientation features lectures and discussions on the basics of safety and health, the common hazards present in small-scale and backyard enterprises such as materials handling and storage, poor housekeeping, use of sharps and other equipment, exposure to dust and other contaminants, inadequate ventilation and illumination, heat stress, and musculoskeletal disorders. Participants to this training are also given information on reproductive health, diseases such as HIV and AIDS, tuberculosis and Hepatitis B.
