DOLE-OSHC trains 660 new safety officers

A total of 660 participants from 483 companies attended the 11 batches of the Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Training held this July. This includes the 117 representatives from 85 companies in the Valenzuela area.

The BOSH Training is one of the 40-hour mandatory trainings for safety officers. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Standards, a sufficient number of safety officers, who have finished the BOSH Training, must be employed by all establishments. The number of safety officers depends on the number of workers for every shift.

“As part of the vigorous OSH awareness and training campaign, we have opened more batches of the mandatory, 40-hour BOSH Training. We are actually over our targets for the year in terms of training but because of the huge demand, we continue to hold more,” said Occupational Safety and Health Center Executive Director Ma. Teresita S. Cucueco, MD, CESO III.

The OSHC conducted BOSH Trainings at its main office in Quezon City and in Binondo, Bukidnon and Valenzuela while the OSHNets held four batches of BOSH Training in the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Calamba, Davao and General Santos.

“We are very grateful to the Occupational Safety and Health Networks (OSHNets) and to the accredited Safety Training Organizations for helping us reach more workers and establishments,” added Cucueco.
