OSH compliance and best OSH practices top-bill 3rd Occupational Safety and Health Summit in the Visa

“With the upward progression of economy in the Visayas, integration of OSH is essential. And we at the DOLE, together with our partners are working towards increasing the capacity of companies to comply with Labor and Occupational Safety and Health Standards, sustain increased productivity, and other support measures,” said Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) Executive Director Ma. Teresita S. Cucueco, MD, CESO III during the opening ceremonies of the 3rd Occupational Safety and Health Summit in the Visayas yesterday.


Close to 300 participants attended the two-day event with the theme “Strengthening OSH Systems and Compliance to Attain ASEAN Competitiveness.” The Summit focused on OSH and ASEAN Integration.


Atty. Josephus Jimenez discussed safety issues and its importance in the upcoming ASEAN Integration, while Ms. Regina Quiambao of InSafety, Inc. explained the benefits of the sSafetyHow.com website for all OSH advocates.


Nine different topics were discussed in two plenary sessions which included emergency and disaster preparedness, worker safety, DOLE Department Order 128-13: Amending Rule 1414 on scaffolding of the OSHS and safety management system in the maritime industry. Experts from the OSHC also discussed several researches of the Center such as the Retrospective study of cleanup operations and emergency response in disasters and chemical incidents in the Philippines, OSH courses in colleges and universities and OSH practices, policies and programs of selected BPOs, hotels and construction companies.


“I would like to thank the many safety and health experts who selflessly share their researches and innovations on OSH. I am truly grateful that we have many advocates who are not only working for the productivity of their own companies but generously push for the competitiveness of other establishments by imparting their knowledge, experiences and discoveries on improving worker protection,” Cucueco added.
