DOLE-OSHC conducts scaffolding safety training
Some 29 workers from 11 companies participated in the Scaffolding Safety Training held by the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) on August 10-14 at their main office in Quezon City.
“One of the major causes of accidents in the construction industry is falling from heights, thus we are pouring our efforts in ensuring the safety of workers engaged in this area of construction through trainings such as the Scaffold Safety Training. As an accredited Scaffold Erectors Assessment Center, we are also providing trainings to enhance the skill of construction workers in the installation and dismantling of scaffolds,” said OSHC Executive Director Ma. Teresita S. Cucueco, MD, CESO III.
The five-day training is an amalgam of lectures, demonstrations and workshops geared to equip participants with the right perspective and attitude towards working with scaffolds, knowledge in reading and interpretation of building plans, scaffold design and skills in installing, dismantling as well as inspecting scaffolds.
“We are also trying to veer away from lecture-heavy trainings especially in trainings that focus on building the skill of the participants, thus we are designed trainings like this that feature more workshops and more hands-on experiences,” added Cucueco.
To finish the above mentioned training, participants are required to perform proper procedures from erecting, to inspecting and dismantling scaffolds. Modules on the compliance to Occupational Safety and Health Standards as well as DOLE Department Orders 13 and 128 are also discussed.
