Bacolod City - The Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) together with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Safety Organiaztion of Negros Occidental, Inc. (SONO) commenced the five-day Construction Safety Training today, September 28, 2015.

“We are grateful for the the strong partnership we have with the SONO in promoting safety and health here in Negros Occidental. We hope that we can have more OSH trainings to ensure that safety officers in this region are competent in implementing OSH programs and policies in their respective companies,” said DOLE Region 6 Assistant Regional Director Cyril Ticao during theopening of the training.

The participants were very eager to learn about safety and health. Dyan Grace Mayang, compensation and benefits officer of Focus Direct said “I know this training will provide me with the knowledge and skils in indentifying hazardous practices which must be avoided both at work and at home.” On the other hand, Anthiny Altarejos, a registered nurse and safety officer of The Doctors’ Hospital, Inc. said that he needs more information on safety in the construction industry since he does not have much experience on it. The CST is mandatory for all safety officers in the construction industry. As required by the Occupational Safety and Health Standards and DOLE Department Order 13, a sufficient number of trained safety officers must be employed by all construction companies.
