DOLE-OSHC and BFP to collaborate on the conduct of fire safety training

“Fire hazards are very common in almost all workplaces and we are working triple time to strengthen the capacity of safety officers in implementing safety and health programs in their respective workplaces, particularly fire safety programs. We are grateful for this opportunity to work with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in arming safety officers with the right information on fire prevention,” said Occupational Safety and Health Executive Director Ma. Teresita S. Cucuceco, MD, CESO III today, October 29, 2015.

“The OSHC is already conducting a three-day fire safety training and a module on this subject is also included in the Basic Occupational Safety and Health Training and Construction Safety Training but the Fire Safety Training for Safety Practitioners (FSTSP) will augment the need for education and training among workers from various industries,” Cucueco added.

A Memorandum of Agreement was signed by BFP Chief Ariel A. Barayuga, CEO VI and OSHC Executive Director Cucueco on the joint conduct of the FSTSP today at the OSHC main office in Quezon City.

“This is another milestone for the advocacy of both our offices, a first collaboration with another government agency which will help us boost our mandate of keeping workplaces safe from destructive fire,” said Barayuga.

The FTSP is a mandatory training required under Republic Act No. 9514 in order to improve compliance to the Fire Code of the Philippines as well as the Occupational Safety and Health Standards.

Under the MOA, the OSHC and the BFP will jointly review and finalize the training curriculum in accordance to the BFP prescribed module. The OSHC will be in charge of the training management while the BFP shall provide the speakers as well as training equipment such as fire truck fire extinguishers.
