DOLE-OSHC trains 626 new safety officers in November

A total of 626 participants from more than 300 companies attended the eight batches of the Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Training and three batches of the Construction Safety Training held this November by the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Networks (OSHNets).

The BOSH Training and CST are the 40-hour mandatory trainings for safety officers. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Standards, a sufficient number of safety officers, who have finished the BOSH Training or CST, must be employed by all establishments. The number of safety officers depends on the number of workers for every shift.

“We have trained a total of 5,866 safety officers trained in BOSH and CST from January to November which brings the number of trained workers to 19,298 for 2015 alone. This includes the 13,432 participants trained by our other partners – the accredited safety training organizations. Our goal is to more than 70,000 safety officers until the end of 2015 a huge task which we will not be able to achieve without the OSHNets and STOs,” said Occupational Safety and Health Center Executive Director Ma. Teresita S. Cucueco, MD, CESO III.

“There remains to be a huge demand for OSH trainings. In fact our batches are already fully-booked until the end of January. This is a refelection of the continously increasing awareness of workers and management on the importance of OSH and of the growing initiative of the private sector to cimply with the OSH Standards and step up their worker protection programs,” Cucueco added.
