DOLE-OSHC trains 483 new safety officers in January

A total of 483 participants from 241 companies attended the five batches of the Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Training and five batches of the Construction Safety Training held this January by the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Networks (OSHNets).

The BOSH Training and CST are the 40-hour mandatory trainings for safety officers. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Standards, a sufficient number of safety officers, who have finished the BOSH Training or CST, must be employed by all establishments. The number of safety officers depends on the number of workers for every shift.

“We have trained more than 20,000 safety officers in BOSH and CST in 2015 and this year we will be training even more. We are grateful for the fruitful partnerships we have with all the OSHNets as well as with the accredited STOs.,” said Occupational Safety and Health Center Executive Director Ma. Teresita S. Cucueco, MD, CESO III.

“There remains to be a huge demand for OSH trainings. In fact our batches are already fully-booked until April. This is a reflection of the continuously increasing awareness of workers and management on the importance of OSH and of the growing initiative of the private sector to simply with the OSH Standards and step up their worker protection programs,” Cucueco added.
