DOLE-OSHC REU V conducts GKK validation


Occupational Safety and Health Center Regional Extension Unit V is currently conducting initial validations for the 12 nominees to the 10th Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan (GKK).


The GKK is a biennial award given by the DOLE to companies and individual as well as government offices with outstanding occupational safety and health practices, programs, innovations and contributions. It is one of the five good housekeeping seals under the DOLE Incentivizing Compliance Program which aims to encourage companies to voluntarily comply with general labor laws and occupational safety and health standards.


And this time, a two-tiered and more rigorous selection scheme will be used and GKK champions will be hailed from both the Regional and National Levels. The initial validation is part of the selection process for Regional GKK Champions. After passing the document review, a shortlist of entries from four categories: establishment, individual, micro-enterprise, and government office will be subjected to an initial validation.


Those that qualify will undergo the Regional Validation which will be conducted by a team of experts from OSHC, ECC, Results of the validation will be deliberated upon by the Regional Selection Committee chaired by the DOLE Regional Director to come up with the Regional GKK Champions


The Regional GKK Champions will then undergo the last phase – the final judging and deliberation to determine the National GKK Champions. A Board of Judges composed of representatives from the employers’ and workers’ groups, Social Security System, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth), professional groups, the academe, and DOLE offices will rate the contenders based on 10 minute presentations of their best OSH practices.
