OSHC REU 5 conducts OSH orientation for creation of VGCP

Occupational Safety and Health Center Regional Extension Unit Focal Mark James Andayog conducted an OSH orientation today, during the meeting of DOLE and 41 construction companies in Camarines Norte. The meeting was held for the development of a Voluntary Code of Good Practices (VGCP) for the Construction Industry in the said province.

The OSH orientation featured a discussion on occupational risks and hazards and an overview on preventing accidents and illnesses. This provided necessary information for the crafting of a VGCP.

A VGCP is a set of voluntary minimum standards on the social and employment aspects of the industry. It may deal with hiring and firing of employees, education and training, health and safety, enforcement of labor standards, improvement of working conditions, dispute settlement, or social dialogue. It seeks to allow the industry social partners to voluntarily self-regulate their engagement and for government to assume a facilitative role.
